Its the end of the world cup and I am writing my first post reviewing the final as it happens. First of all, Zaheer Khan produced one of the best opening spells of recent history. The next thing to note was the Indian fielding. It was BRILLIANT ! Awesome !! Yuvraj Singh was just flying everywhere to stop boundaries. Between him and Raina, they would've saved atleast 20 runs. But then Mahela Jayawardene entered and got going from the word GO ! To add insult to injury, Thisara Perera ended things in style. It was good field placing and good rotation of bowlers. But the decision to bring the erratic Sreesanth proves to be a gamble. Especially for the finals.
India was rocked at the start with Sehwag falling for a duck and foolishly reviewed the decision!! One review wasted. As i write now, Sachin plays a straight drive , and what a shot ! And when i think that this is Sachin's day, Malinga dismisses him !
I take a long break after Sachin's dismissal. Virat Kohli and Gambhir steer India to safety. The shots these two played sensibly really has made me believe that finally, finally, FINALLY, the team is not dependent on HIM.... In between , Srilanka;s fielding is cracking under pressure. They're dropping catches, misfielding, missing stumpings, missing run-outs. Kohli was dismissed by a terrific catch. In walked Dhoni. As I predicted. I wanted to keep the left-right combination going and so did Dhoni. Before the match, I updated my facebook status saying that Dhoni will score today. It was a hunch. A strong hunch that proved to be true later on.
Dhoni is playing a captain's knock. Firing for the first time this world cup and how !!!
Gambhir has fallen short of his well deserved hundred and there are some butterflies in my stomach. In walks Ever dependable Yuvraj Singh and immediately pulls ferociously to the boundary. The upper cut of Dhoni left the bat with such speed that even Rajnikanth missed the shot while blinking his eyes !!! The dreaded batting powerplay has become mandatory now. Four dot balls later, they run a two !!!
Its really nerve-wracking !!! 27 runs of 4 overs required. Wont they just finish it off !!! Dhoni hits a crackalacka shot to cool my nerves and also, the rest of India's !!! Equation says 22 of 22 !!! Now its Yuvraj's turn to blast the ball into the boundary. A flurry of full tosses but India is not able to finish it off in the 47th over itself. Dhoni hits a four to bring it down further. There is a strange thing going on. Every time my mom goes to the kitchen and comes back and takes a seat, India scores a boundary :) !!!
The Cup is just a blow away !!! One single blow will be enough !!! and it is done,,. and how !!!!!
